what we do
Civic Sphere is a consulting firm that helps clients working in sustainable mobility thrive as they navigate technological change and seek to improve inclusion. Since 2017, we've collaborated on 25 projects with 12 clients and partners from the nonprofit, private, and public sectors. These resources range from action plans & guidebooks to training events & more.
Technology and Digital Services
Not only do we design new service models – such as on-demand (Uber-like) public transport – we also design systems around newer technologies (such as battery electric buses) and help select/deploy operational software and public-facing apps.
We have deep expertise in how multiple public transport authorities/companies operating in one geographic area – running buses, trams, metros, bike shares, and more (including mobility hubs) – can better coordinate their services. We also have a strong background in designing/selecting plan-book-pay digital products (mobility as a service/MaaS) and in behavior change design. From understanding which APIs and data formats to use to leveraging data to answer important questions (structured or via AI) and incorporating technology products into stations/stops (payment, digital screens, etc.), we deliver comprehensive solutions for clients.

This work is done from a perspective of inclusion, both digital and physical, and that involves data analysis, best practices, and participatory stakeholder work. How can diversity – considering factors such as age, disability, gender, income, and migration background – impact the user experience? After all, we have the responsibility to get people to work opportunities – with all the economic impact that implies – as well as to loved ones, cultural outings, and medical appointments. As professionals, we help determine the literal flow of their day, and ideally we help make each day a good one.
