Draft graphic: ODT operations software
Client Question:
What is the best way, for procurement reasons or otherwise, to evaluate and compare software options for on-demand transport (ODT) and demand-responsive transport (DRT) operations?
Civic Sphere worked with the National Center for Applied Transit Technology’s office in Washington D.C. in 2023, creating the “Preparing to Evaluate Software Options for DRT Operations” worksheet to be added online to its Tech University platform during 2023/24.
The answer? Follow the 3 steps laid out in the form of 3 worksheet exercises. First, users are guided through a process of clarifying which stakeholders are relevant to the evaluation of software options for ODT/DRT operations, which in turn provides insight into how they should be involved in the process (including the additional exercises). Second, users are guided through a group collaboration process (with their colleagues) to pinpoint the specific challenges their organization is facing that new software for ODT/DRT operations could help address. Third, users are guided in generating a list of software requirements that are customized based on the previous two exercises. In addition, the worksheet introduction provides an overview of ODT and DRT, explaining how these services – and their operational software platforms – differ.
