Civic Sphere worked with Gwinnett County Transit (GCT) in the Atlanta region in the US in partnership with Kimley-Horn’s office in San Francisco, California during 2018-19.
A recorded webinar on this project was given to the Eno Center's audience in 2019.
Project Background:
This project involves services in the US that are commonly used by people with limited mobility and those 65+. Learn more about these specialized public transport services.
Client Question:
How can a successful “uber-like” (on-demand) public transport pilot project be most effectively scaled up and integrated with other options, especially ADA paratransit?
Civic Sphere’s Response:
The public transport agency should ensure an “as seamless as possible” experience for all riders when they want to combine services.
The core idea of the project was to ensure that people with limited mobility and those 65+ – current users of the ADA paratransit service and potential users of the on-demand service – are not put at a disadvantage when they use the on-demand service. While ADA paratransit is legally protected, how it should interact with other services is not always spelled out. And no matter how far things advance technologically, it is also important to protect call-based trip booking and cash payment, since this remains the preference of many people.
