Client Question:
How can organizations that already have GTFS-realtime data ensure they make the most of it?

Civic Sphere worked with the National Center for Applied Transit Technology’s office in Washington D.C. in 2023, creating the “Selecting Channels for GTFS-realtime Service Interruptions Data” worksheet for the small/medium public transit operators in their knowledge network.

The answer? Follow the 2 steps laid out in the form of 2 worksheet exercises. First, users are guided through a decision tree to understand whether various data channels are applicable to their agency’s goals. Second, users are guided through a strategic mapping process to a) take stock of the resources and relationships they already have that can be leveraged and b) organize their future activities into the short, medium, and long term. In addition, the worksheet introduction explains what General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) and GTFS-realtime data are along with all the various channels where such data are viewed and accessed (apps, websites, digital signage, texting systems, & social media).
