Worksheet on Navigating the Technology Procurement Process

Three colleagues chatting and using post-it notes to keep track of ideas.
Client Question:
Which procurement method is most appropriate for my situation, and what steps should I follow to conduct the procurement process?

Civic Sphere worked with the National Center for Applied Transit Technology’s office in Washington D.C. in 2023, providing the “Creating a Transit Technology Procurement Checklist” worksheet to be added online to its Tech University platform during 2023/24.

The answer? Follow the 3 steps laid out in the form of 3 worksheet exercises. First, users are guided in clarifying what resources are available to apply to the technology effort. Second, users navigate a decision tree to determine which of the three procurement methods are the best fit for their technology effort. Third, users navigate another decision tree to identify which steps should be taken during their procurement process, culminating in the creation of a procurement checklist—a customized set of action steps. In addition, the worksheet introduction explains the 3 common procurement methods: competitive, non-competitive, and no-cost trial procurements.
