Client Question:
What is Scenario Planning, and how can I design my own process?
Civic Sphere worked with the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy’s office in Boston, Massachusetts, USA in 2019, creating the “How to Design Your Scenario Planning Process” guide. This guide helps urban and rural planners better understand what scenario planning is, why it matters, and how they can get started designing their own Scenario Planning process. This project helped support the establishment of the Consortium for Scenario Planning.
The answer? After reading the overview and learning about example projects, users can review the steps that are required to design a scenario planning process. Finally, users can follow the steps outlined in the “Scenario Planning Process Design Workbook” provided at the end of the document and pay close attention to the “design path” graphic as a guiding concept. To create the guide’s content, Civic Sphere collaborated with a group of 12 professionals to gain input and feedback.
