Client Question:
What is Scenario Planning, and how might it apply to my work?

Civic Sphere worked with the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy’s office in Boston, Massachusetts, USA in 2018, producing the Scenario Planning Collection of the American Planning Association’s (APA) KnowledgeBase. This project helped support the establishment of the Consortium for Scenario Planning.

The answer? Users can review the landing page for an overview of scenario planning, then refer to various sections for applicability to specific situations (land use, climate change, etc.) and how Scenario Planning works with other planning aspects (public participation, existing frameworks, etc.). Finally, users can review the project section for concrete examples and the “future of scenario planning” section to find out where it is headed next. To create this collection for APA’s KnowledgeBase, Civic Sphere reviewed 50+ resources for potential inclusion, collaborated with a group of 5 professionals to locate key resources, and developed the content and structure.
