Note:
This project was not completed by Civic Sphere. Details are provided to explain the relationship between Simply Get There and Civic Sphere’s projects including:
> Online Resource Center: One-Call/One-Click Systems
> Training Event: One-Call/One-Click Systems (Part One)
> Training Event: One-Call/One-Click Systems (Part Two)
Project Details:
One of the earliest OC/OC systems in the US, the Simply Get There platform for the Atlanta region, involved a collaborative design process with several large stakeholder groups including the local Center for Independent Living and the Area Agency on Aging (AAA). This project was innovative for a few reasons.
> It provided a way for people who experience a barrier to share it, and for the resulting trip instructions to take it into account, for example with a hazard symbol to warn others.
> It included so-called specialized public transport services, a group of services in the US provided mainly for people with limited mobility and those 65+ that pick people up at home and take them directly to their destination.
> The online platform was integrated into the work of social workers who provide phone-based information at the AAA and at the local hospital for veterans.
The result was an online platform – free to the public – where people can plug in where they need to go and find out all the accessible options available to them (public transport, walking, biking, etc.), along with cost and time details.
The platform was delivered in 2014 and was operational until 2020. The design work was led by the owner of Civic Sphere from 2012-2014 when she was a Project Manager for the AAA within the Atlanta Regional Commission. More details are provided in the Concept of Operations document.
